October 2017: Books, Life, and Reviews

HI!!
Holy Batman October is over! Where did it go? This is the time of the year where I might have bitten off more than I could chew. I'm a scout mom, and I like to help wherever I can. This year we started off a bit rocky with our Super Scout Mom, being sick. It made us all realize how much we rely on her superpowers, and also that we also have our own superpowers. She is better now, and we are rocking it like chickens with their heads cut off. Fall is our busy months.

With as busy as I have been I was able to knock out 3 books and 2 novellas! I was hoping it would be more, but lately, I been passing out on books.  So without further ado here my top three reads of October!

P.S. Some links are affiliate links. The small amount of money I get from these, help supplement the cost of running this blog and giveaways. You don't have to click them, you can always head to the site itself and do a search! XOXOX

He’s got every reason to be cocky . . . until a female cuts him down to size.

I’m Dallas Easton, the best goaltender in the league. I make a damn good living playing hockey, and with women falling at my feet wherever I go, why not enjoy it? I get whatever I want, whenever I want—that is, until I come across the one player who gets the best of me on the ice.

When I try to pummel the dude, all hell breaks loose. Imagine my surprise when the helmet comes off to reveal a woman underneath. And not just any woman, but the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen. Callie Davis is the complete opposite of the puck bunnies I usually go for, a good girl with sick moves and a selfless streak a mile wide. I need to make amends, but she dodges me at every turn. It doesn’t help that Callie’s brother hates my guts, or that my agent thinks she’s bad for my career.

The Quiche and the Dead by Kirsten Weiss

The Quiche and the Dead
Series: A Pie Town Mystery
Author: Kirsten Weiss
Genre: Cozy Mystery

Is Val's breakfast pie the quiche of death?

Owning her own business seemed like pie in the sky to Valentine Harris when she moved to the coastal California town of San Nicholas, expecting to start a new life with her fiancΓ©. Five months—and a broken engagement—later, at least her dream of opening a pie shop has become a reality. But when one of her regulars keels over at the counter while eating a quiche, Val feels like she's living a nightmare.

After the police determine the customer was poisoned, business at Pie Town drops faster than a fallen crust. Convinced they’re both suspects, Val's flaky, seventy-something pie crust maker Charlene drags her boss into some amateur sleuthing. At first Val dismisses Charlene’s half-baked hypotheses, but before long the ladies uncover some shady dealings hidden in fog-bound San Nicholas. Now Val must expose the truth—before a crummy killer tries to shut her pie hole.

About the Author

From USA Today Bestselling Author Apryl Baker... So who am I? Well, I'm the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friend Chazz laughs at me when I scare myself watching them and tells me to stop watching them, but who doesn't love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep. Growing up in a small town, I learned a lot of values and morals, I also learned parents have spies everywhere and there's always someone to tell your mama you were seen kissing a particular boy on a particular day just a little too long. So when you get grounded, what is there left to do? Read! My Aunt Jo gave me my first real romance novel. It was a romance titled "Lord Margrave's Deception." I remember it fondly. But I also learned I had a deep and abiding love of mysteries and anything paranormal. As I grew up, I started to write just that and would entertain my friends with stories featuring them as main characters. Now, I live Huntersville, NC where I entertain my niece and nephew and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce...lol. I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

Review: Enclave

Enclave Enclave by Ann Aguirre
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed reading this book. I wasn't sure if I was really wanting to get into another dystopian book. Will be finishing off this series!

Review: Linger

Linger Linger by Maggie Stiefvater
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Holy Moly! Talk about a roller coaster of emotions. It's now been 4 days since I have finished this book and I'm still in a funk with the rawness of emotions from these characters. It's been forever since a young adult fantasy novel has put me through such a journey. As soon as my emotions are back to normal. ( You know crying at stupid commercials again) I will be heading Back to check on Grace, Sam and the Rest of the players of Mercy Falls.
